A LITHUANIAN-FLAG CARGO SHIP WAS ATTACKED AT 0121 UTC 40 MILES FROM THE THAI PORT OF PHUKET. THE ATTACK REPORTEDLY WAS LAUNCHED FROM A HIGH SPEED CRAFT CARRYING 25 ARMED PERSONS WHO FORCED THE CREW TO STOP THE ENGINES. THEY MANACLED THEM TO THE RAIL WHILE THEY LOOTED THE SHIP. THE SECOND OFFICER WAS INJURED BY GUNFIRE.

Upon passing, this motor boat left the shelter of the island and took a position astern of the Mesis where it was shielded from radar detection (but was watched visually by this officer).
