    EQUATORIAL GUINEA: On 29 May at 2210 local time, as many as nine pirates in a speedboat boarded an underway Ghana-flagged cargo ship approximately 28 NM southwest of Bioko Island, near position 03-12N 007-58E. The pirates kidnapped the captain, a Ghanaian, and the chief engineer, a Nigerian, and stole ship’s and crew’s properties before leaving the vessel with the abducted crew members. After the incident, the ship returned to Douala, Cameroon.

    EQUATORIAL GUINEA: On 1 January at 1930 UTC, pirates boarded the Tuvalu-flagged product tanker HANA I approximately 46 NM southwest of Bioko Island near position 02-33N 008-13E on its voyage from Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, to Douala, Cameroon. The perpetrators abducted the master, chief engineer, and possibly seven other crew members. There has been no contact from the crew or their captors since they were kidnapped. The tanker arrived at Douala on 2 January.

    EQUATORIAL GUINEA: On 13 December at approximately 1007 UTC, pirates hijacked and kidnapped two crew members from a passenger vessel underway approximately 55 NM northwest of Bata, near position 02-48N 008-41E. The two kidnapped crew members are Cameroonian nationals. Following the departure of the pirates with the two hostages, the vessel was reported to be safe and under escort into the port of Douala.

    EQUATORIAL GUINEA: On 12 December at approximately 0250 UTC, a skiff approached and fired upon Greece-flagged oil tanker MARAN POSEIDON underway approximately 103 NM west of Bata, near position 02-25N 008-24E. The tanker increased speed as the skiff approached, and the skiff never came closer than about 200 meters. Following the incident, the master reported that the vessel and crew were safe.
