Armed military guards onboard the trawler fired shots toward the two speed boats, which resulted in them aborting their approach and moving away from the area. The vessel, crew, and military guards have been reported as safe.

After boarding the boat, the perpetrators fired warning shots to scare off the security personnel protecting the vessel. They then took the boat, and kidnapped three oil workers who were passengers on the boat.

According to press reports, the perpetrators stole passengers’ belongings and kidnapped all male passengers, including the boat captain. The female passengers were left in the passenger boat. CAMEROON: On 19 June, an underway offshore supply vessel (OSV) was fired upon by an unknown number of gunmen close to Archibong town in Bakassi waters near position 04-49N 008-36E. According to press reports, the OSV was on its way to Nigeria when it was attacked. The security personnel escorting the vessel fled when the attackers opened fire on the vessel. One of the OSV crew members was reportedly hit by a stray bullet.
