本船は、船長ほか14人(中華人民共和国籍12人、ベトナム社会主義共和国籍2人)が乗り組み、融雪塩約5,000tを積載し、平成26年12月16日13時55分ごろ酒田港の大浜ふ頭第1岸壁(以下「本件岸壁」という。)に左舷着けしたが、荒天のため揚げ荷役ができなかったので、右舷錨鎖を2節(約50m)伸出させ、係留索8本を取って係留を続けた。 本船は、風波により係留索が破断して本件岸壁から離れたので、 17日14時30分ごろからタグボートに右舷側を押させて、既に取っている係留索の調整を試みたが、船体の動揺によりできず、その間に何度も本件岸壁に衝突した。 本船は、18日08時10分ごろ船倉内に浸水していることが発見され、左舷外板に破口等が生じていることが確認された。 本船は、代理店から通報を受けた海上保安部の職員及び乗組員による排水作業が行われ、17時30分ごろ破口が水面上となった。
