    本船は、船長ほか16人(フィリピン共和国籍)が乗り組み、バナナ及びパイナップル約2,584tを積載し、船首約5.3m、船尾約5.8mの喫水により、平成24年11月15日02時08分ごろ来島海峡航路東口に入航し、機関を使用できる状態として全速力前進の約14ノット(kn)の速力(対地速力、以下同じ。)で中水道に向かって航行した。 船長は、操船指揮に当たり、三等航海士を船長補佐に、甲板手を手動操舵にそれぞれ就け、航路の右側端から約1海里離した予定針路上を馬島に向けて船首方位を310°(真方位、以下同じ。)として航行中、02時16分ごろ予定の変針場所において、中水道の中央に向ける352°とするつもりで右舵10°を令した。 本船は、船首方位がわずかに変位するだけだったので、船長が、右舵一杯を令したが、船首がナガセ鼻灯台に向いた状態でどんどん馬島に寄せられていることが分かり、船尾が馬島に衝突してプロペ
