貨物船RICH OCEANは、船長ほか12人が乗り組み、山口県上関町八島南方沖を大韓民国仁川港に向けて西南西進中、また、貨物船松洋丸は、船長ほか6人が乗り組み、関門港若松区に向けて西南西進中、平成29年9月7日19時00分ごろ両船が衝突した。 RICH OCEANは、船尾部に凹損及び破口を生じ、松洋丸は、船首部に凹損及び擦過傷を生じたが、両船共に死傷者はいなかった。
